Shopping in Bangkok
What to Shop for in Bangkok
Thai Silk
The exotic hand-woven Thai silk is perhaps the best buy in Bangkok. The legendary American, Jim Thompson, introduced radiant colorfast dyes to Thai silk in the 50's. His bold innovations resulted in the bright spectrum of shades displayed in the plaids, stripes, and prints that grace the shops today. A branch of the Jim Thompson Store is located in the Isetan Department Store at the World Trade Center.
Gems & Jewelry
The art of jewelry making is a time-honored practice in Thailand. Many jewelers specializing in gold, jade, diamonds and other precious stones can be found in the Indra Shopping Arcade and in the various shopping centers near the hotel.
Handicrafts & Antiques
Most Thai handicrafts come from the northern region of Thailand. You can visit the Narai Phand Handicraft Center on Rajadamri Road for these products in Bangkok. Supported by the Thai government, this store has every possible handicraft at fixed prices.
Clothing
Bangkok has no shortage of clothing outlets. The Pratunam Market, also known as the garment district, is lined with wholesalers and retailers of T-shirts and ready-to-wear garments.
